A digital presentation of audio and visual materials depicting a satellite view of the Greater Tehran Central Prison, screen captures from audio editing software and an edited audio file based on a recording from the Tehran Metro.

This particular project is based upon freely associating my digital and online research with real-life material obtained in Tehran. It started out as an initiative aimed at investigating the Fashapuyeh prison – renowned for it’s unethical treatment of prisoners – near Tehran, Iran. Due to the impossibility of gaining any information on site, the project only advanced once back in the Netherlands. Satellite imagery from the time of the visit revealed the location of the prison, confirmed by a visual resemblance and similar name to what was mentioned in the only two online articles on the subject. The coordinates obtained in this fashion were then transposed into an audio file and “pasted” into a recording of an automated message announcing the Shoosh metro station from Tehran.
